Sophia Full of Grace…Supermodel of the World 2011 Winner

I remember the day Sofia came in for her shoot. An alluring dark-haired beauty, with deep brown eyes, and a charm and innocence that is so rare these days. As she opened the studio door, I could sense the excitement and nervousness that she felt. It was her first time outside of her hometown in Argentina. It probably seemed a million miles away to her. Surreal. In the big apple, having her pictures taken in New York City for the very first time. She had come to New York city in hopes of possibly peaking the interest of a modeling agencies. What girl doesn’t dream of walking into a NYC agency, and being offered a contract on the spot. She was just happy to get the chance to be here. No delusions of grander. No sense of entitlement. A sincerity that made her even more beautiful. In her own eyes, she believed she was just another face amongst many. Nothing special.

I remember a booker from Ford contacting me and asking me to please test Sophia. Sophia had just been informed that she was being offered a contract (on the spot) from Ford NY. This would be her only chance to test with a NYC photographer and she needed pictures badly. She left their offices and headed straight for the studio so we did an impromptu shoot that evening.

I don’t think any of us knew that night how wonderful things would turn out for Sophia. We all knew she was special. We took our time. We played. We laughed. we learned how to dance that night. She lead, and the camera followed. It didn’t take long for her to become the beautiful and graceful model that she was born to be. I am happy for her. For her family. For her mother agency who brought her to New York on a whim. I hope she does great things. Mostly, I hope she will always hold on to that sincere modesty. It’s so rare.

In love with the idea of love…

It’s been a while since I updated, so what better subject to start with than Love…Someone asked me once, if I had ever been in love. I didn’t know the answer. I do know that I have always been in love with the “idea” of being in love. It is intoxicating, overwhelming, and beautiful. It is simple yet complex, elusive and always right in front of us. It is the love of life, of happiness, of all beauty that surrounds us. It is the idea, that in this big world, you can randomly meet someone anywhere on this earth, and then one day, find yourself caught in their gentle warm embrace, far removed from the snow and cold New york winter day. I love this random beautiful life, and all of its random beautiful things.

All the way from argentina, Sofia reminds me of my love for photography, for the moment, for everything.

Random Beautiful Things (in Paris) – Oksana

I recently decided to upload some pictures up to the Vogue Italia – PhotoVogue site. I had heard about it, but hadn’t paid too much attention to it. The first day I uploaded, I didn’t realize the pic had been selected and showcased on the PhotoVogue home page. Luckily a fellow photographer brought it to my attention. I decided to do it again, and once again, another picture was showcased on the PhotoVogue site. I’ll upload some more pics soon, and hopefully my luck will continue (3rd times a charm hopefully, and will land me the main feature of the day ;p). The two models featured are Thais Molon (Ford Women’s Division in NYC, thanks to Kristen Bolt). The second features Hannare Blaauboer (Evidence Models Paris) and was selected by Benedikt Schlegel (Evidence) during our photo selection process. Here are the pics
